I just got back from Singapore yesterday (Sunday) and we arrived in KL at about 9pm. Went there with two of my best friends and we drove down there. We spent the first day (started journey from KL by Saturday noon) figuring out and driving through almost all the expressways in Singapore. We made a stop at Clementi where I visited a friend of mine who just gave birth to a baby girl. It was my first time I was in a flat in Singapore. The Housing Development Board flats aren't that bad. It was a great time to meet Lillian after almost two years and her newly born baby girl, Babygail (Abigail).
When we left her place, we were in big trouble because we were stuck in Clementi Town at 7.30 pm 'cashless'. It was raining, and we were without any single Singapore money, although we had lots of RM. We thought that we could do the exchange at JB, but since we went thru Tuas (Second Link) we didn't get the chance to exchange big notes except for the 10 bucks for the CashCard.
So, when Lillian told us that there are two money changes in the Clementi Town, we were hoping that we could do the exchange, but to our dismay, they were closed. So, there we were stuck in foreign land, hungry, in the rain, with no 'money', but luckily my friends brought over a loaf of bread, some cheese, and tuna spread. Sometimes, mistakes like this teach you a lot and make you appreciate more your travel adventure. Anyway, we tried all the ATM machines using the Maybank card. Didn't work. It made me wonder why Maybank has that PLUS logo at the back of the ATM card where it is supposed to work here.
From Clementi, we rushed to Woodlands before getting into JB since we had no Sing dollars. But luckily we decided to make a stop at the Woodlands Mall and thank God, we got to exchange the notes we needed and had our dinner at the car park as the KFC was damn full and so were the McD. I observe that Singaporeans
really flocking into these fast food joint esp. KFC to try out the new cheap $2.95 meal that come with the new fries served with cheese, yummy! And I was right with my observation when I found that all the McD and BurgerKings we passed by were full house!
So, we then went to JB for our night stay. The next morning, we headed for the town area, the famous Orchard Road. We did lots of window shopping and bought few items. My friends' are a married couple and it was the first time for the guy to be in Singapore. We spent quite some time at the Kinokuniya where I bought myself the February version of Vanity Fair which is almost impossible to find in KL and a Zara shirt, my first ever clothing from this Spanish brand and I look forward to get some nice shirts and pants from there. I think of Zara as a cheaper alternative to Hugo Boss.
Anyway, I really learn a lot about the Singapore road system during this trip. So far, I had entered Singapore thru air, bus, train, and this time I completed a car trip. Though I have been to this Lion City for four times, they have always been daytrips and I look forward to stay few days there and get around to take more pictures of the city.
